Full Colour Digital Print Guide

Sublimation, digital transfer, and full-colour printing for photo-realistic branding on mugs, mousemats, and more.

What is Full Colour Digital Print?

Full colour digital printing encompasses several techniques that allow photo-quality, unlimited colour reproduction on promotional products. This includes sublimation, UV digital printing, and digital transfer printing.

When you need your artwork reproduced exactly as designed - photos, gradients, complex graphics - full colour digital is the answer.

Sublimation Printing

Sublimation uses heat to transfer dye into polyester fabrics or polymer-coated items. The dye becomes part of the material rather than sitting on top.

  • Best for: Polyester apparel, mugs, mousemats, phone cases
  • Pros: Photo quality, no texture, all-over printing possible
  • Cons: Only works on white/light polyester or polymer coatings

Ideal Products

UV Digital Printing

UV printing uses UV-cured inks that are instantly dried with UV light. This allows printing directly onto many rigid surfaces including plastic, metal, and wood.

  • Best for: Powerbanks, USB drives, pens, hard surfaces
  • Pros: Works on many materials, vibrant colours, quick drying
  • Cons: Limited to flat or slightly curved surfaces

Ideal Products

Digital Transfer Printing

Transfers are digitally printed onto special paper then heat-applied to products. Modern transfers are thin and flexible.

  • Best for: Small quantities on cotton, awkward garment positions
  • Pros: Full colour, good for small runs, works on cotton
  • Cons: Slightly different texture to DTG, less durable for heavy wash

Advantages

  • Unlimited colours at no extra cost
  • Photo-realistic quality
  • Works on many different materials
  • No colour matching issues - prints exactly as designed
  • Cost-effective for full colour on any quantity

Considerations

  • Material restrictions (sublimation needs polyester/polymer)
  • White base may be needed on dark items
  • Different methods suit different products

File Requirements

For best full colour results:

  • 300 DPI minimum at print size
  • CMYK colour mode
  • Include 3mm bleed for edge-to-edge prints
  • PDF, AI, or high-res JPEG/PNG formats
